Nina Grenke-Kosinski Honored for Trailblazing Career
At March 12th’s City Council meeting, Nina Grenke-Kosinski, the
Business Liaison for the Portage Park Chamber of Commerce, was
honored for her groundbreaking career as a female barbershop
owner. During a time when it was almost unheard of for women to cut
men’s hair - let alone own and operate multiple barbershops - Nina
broke barriers by establishing and running three barbershops in
downtown Chicago.
Nina’s recognition came as part of “Women’s History Month” with
Mayor Brandon Johnson nominating her for this well-deserved honor.
45th Ward Alderman Jim Gardiner delivered a heartfelt introductory
speech celebrating Nina’s accomplishments. 30th Ward Alderwoman,
Ruth Cruz, and 38th Ward Alderman, Nicholas Sposato, also wished to
speak in her recognition; however, time constraints prevented them
from doing so.
Special thanks to Mayor Johnson for his positive words about Nina’s
impact on the community and for nominating her for this
acknowledgment. The Portage Park Chamber of Commerce
congratulates Nina on this significant achievement and is proud to be
part of her incredible journey.
